This is quite unethical for AfTLD to come out so late in the game when DotConnectAfrica has done all the ground work.To say the least,it’s blatantly opportunistic! This people should stop the nonsense against DCA.

  • Nigel

having such an important part of Africa’s internet growth potential influenced by the public sector is a huge concern. DCA has done the hard yards and surely has the keenest understanding of what it will take to get .Africa to work as effectively as the continent would want

Just read the post that was sent out, was quite angry, but not surprised, usual suspects, to hell with them!

This is the problem that face us in Africa all the time. One comes up with a great initiative, only for the powerful and mighty to sabotage it! I feel for dotafrica… but they should not give up. One step at a time, one person at a time. Even Goliath was defeated by David.

Africa needs not make mistakes on this project, we may have had mistakes propagated before in other governance issues, but as a continent that has covered enough mile stones in many issues, we need a TLD for the continent, we need a dot africa domain so bad, we need to have a brand that will identify us and be at par with other continents. Our need however urgent must not be marred with issues, it must not be handled by people who have a tainted history of bad practice and mannerisms that choke transparency. Pierre and Aftld have not only shown partiality , selfishness and conflict of interest but have also without knowledge given us a picture of how they would manage the domain in the long run, much more like a private entity to feed sacred cows and fleece africa of the right to own a TLD. we therefore do not need self seeking individuals to head the process but people who trust and promote transparency. We must not begin the process of obtaining a domain by allowing such people to smudge it with stains of bad governance and practices. Allow Africa to start properly, at least on the right footing.

It’s a shame that such a man is seeking an ICANN position while he has demonstrated a secretive divide and rule mechanism, pushing his own agenda. What if he gets the position, shan’t he use it to push his own projects at the expense of icann? …..NO TO PIERRE !!! NO TO AFTLD NO !!

I just vote “NO” to AfTLD to run DCA.

It is not acceptable by all known means – for those who understand the bi-Laws and follow them – not following individual wishes

  • Ambrose

No, stop the crime against DCA

  • Lisa

No way, over the last few years,DotConnectAfrica has spearheaded this campaign to give us an identity online and we have come to trust and volunteer our energies towards DCA’s initiative and now these impostors and latecomers want to piggyride on all the ground work that DCA has done.As a young person,I say NO TO AfTLD!This is not ethical!
    I am generation.africa!

  • AfroITGuy

No for Aftld. We know they can’t do it. Why the last minute? They have not done well on ccTLDs, and now they want to do a continental TLD? it would fail, not even they will get 200 registrations!

    Competition for .africa heats up| DomainNews.co.za http://domainincite.com/competition-for-africa-heats-up/

Mr Murphy , I appreciate the information. It appears that Aftld’s proposals is not different at all from the DCA however much they want to impress differently in fact Aftld’s idea and tone is an exact mirror which shows how embarrassing it is to know that the such an organization would wait till its late evening only to copy paste everything from framework to text from DCA claiming to go after .africa . Might I just refer the DCA Dec 17th PR http://prlog.org/11153598 an idea clearly articulated the panafrican idea not forgetting the social media sites strongly backed by a framework of dotafrique and dotafrigya with rich content for both language groups. And what about Generation.africa, shall we also see this brilliant authenticity claimed by Aftld?

To ask why Aftld came out pretty much in the last minutes to want to topple DCA’s efforts is unwarranted, noting that they(Aftld) do not have the capacity nor mandate to involve itself in a huge continental project such as .africa. Its honestly not a competition rather it’s only fair to call it sabotage, everyone knows in the fraternity who Aftld’s affiliations and advisors are however much they try to right a tainted past. Thus their coup against DCA using Africa Union who in fact endorsed and mandated DCA 9months ago for project dotafrica as their political gimmick to hurt the well charted organized DCA’s track record may and will never work, not when a lot has been achieved.

  • Hebheyej

Also noted that “AU endorsed and mandated DCA 9months ago!!!!!!”. Is this right?! If so, why not right for “AfTLD”?????? I remember SB has a letter from AU – what for if it is only ICANN that has mandate?! Let’s talk the reality.

  • Dr. Tarrik

Nothing to talk, get your knowledge right. DCA did not get a mandate to run a registry dear, that is ICANN who gives that.

DCA has an endorsement from AU for dotAfrica, like Former President Gorbachev of Russia gave an endorsement for doteco and alternately, Former US an endoVP Al Core gave for another competing bid doteco and endorsment as well. They did not fight over the same man. It is not ethical. Whoever got there firs gets it or have built relations, in this case DCA should reserve their rights. Why not me scenario is not meritorious,is called copy cat.

I hope this would enlighten you between geeting a mandate and an endorsement process for a registry.

  • AfroITGuy

Hebheyej, the question before us now is:What is an African Union endorsement really worth when it can be granted to one organization and the next day it’s withdrawn and granted to the next organization? Many international organizations/businesses looking forward to doing business in Africa are drawing their own conclusions from the conduct of AU as concerns DotConnectAfrica. Is an AU endorsement now up to the highest bidder? If AU cannot solve the continent’s problems, then let it at least live up to be an organization of honour and integrity and not an obstacle to progress;that’s the least African people can expect from the body.

  • Robertjames

It appears DCA know what it takes to implement a TLD and has taken the risk and sacrify to get here based on presumably an endorsment from African Union. DCA has also done an excellent job for that matter on this new industry for Africa.

  • Kent

So once again we get to know that Aftld is dismantling its original ineffective outfits that have remained dormant for years and after a jolting wake up call realize that It has to create on amorphous organization that seems unanimous and with new blood to run the .africa Domain but in real since still have the same old members who have lacked the ideas and capacity to manage such a huge project for Africa only doing a copy paste of DCA’s strategies?, are we seeing double speak that in a former Article implying “….that Africa should have a stable organization with a huge financial background so as not to involve other outside Africa organizations”…. Now we see the Aftld seeking assistance from other organizations outside Africa , and even going ahead to bargain for a lower bid price .

I believe that DCA has already done all the ground work and is well ahead of the pack .From governance to the future management of the Domain without outside interference of selfish interests.

  • Serge Heifa

While the AU could have an opinion on whom they would like to see as the successful candidate for the dotafrica domain, it should understand that the extent of their authority is just that! “An opinion” The AU is a government body and should have no control in the domain business other than its own two letter country code TLD. They should really focus on building roads and infrastructure for the African people and leave the internet business to the private organizations that have made it the success it is today.
